I bought this hat because I’ll be working overnight shifts outside at a ski resort this winter. I took it out last night to see how it would work out over the season. It was about 20F out and I had to switch hats due to sweat. This is a seriously warm hat that I would recommend to anyone that needs to be out in the cold.

I live in Chicago & I have a 90 lb Pitbull that I walk 3 times a day in all & every weather condition you can think of from blistering hot/humid, thunderstorms, to arctic cold winter with 6 feet of snow & wind chill that’ll take your bones down to -40 deg below. This is the hat I wear when walking my dog (who true to the breed is impervious to pain) during this last record breaking winter (that’s saying a lot for Chicago). This hat with long underear, my fleece lined insulated jeans (awesome too), & muck boots good to -80 below & I am virtually hot outside (except any part of me still exposed to wind. Btw, for those of you who don’t understand the affect wind chill has on your body – imagine air so cold that it literally just rips through layers of clothes down to your bones like you were wearing a dental floss & you might get an idea.

I don’t normally take the time to write a review of the products which I buy on Amazon, but in this case I will.

What a great hat! It’s everything I expected and more. It’s warm, good looking and affordable. It’s well made and overall has a little better quality of workmanship than I had anticipated.

The only minor improvement I could suggest is that it needs to be available by hat size, instead of “one size fits all”. It was a little too loose if you were envolved in any substantial outside physcial activity.

Bad Winter…….Good Hat ….. Good Buy!

And when I mean winter I mean winter. Just below freezing and this hat is still just a little too warm. This is a hat for the really cold days. To be fair, it’s only really overwhelming if you strap it down to your head. If you let it sit free, it breathes well enough that it shouldn’t get hot under the hat.

It’s big because I ordered a large because that was cheapest at the time. That being said it is slightly larger than most large sized hats I’ve tried. This isn’t too big of a deal though. At least not for me.

The material the hat is made out of is nice and comfortable. It’s not itchy or heavy. It’s been quite durable for the season that I’ve used it thus far. And surprisingly it does breathe pretty well, again, at least if you leave it unstrapped. The color looks nice, and overall it does look and feel more expensive than it actually is.

It’s a winter hat, and it does it’s job in that regard. And it just so happens to look and feel nice too. For winter wear, this excels. I give it a high recommendation.

This hat looks great and is very warm. What I don’t like is the fit. I used the size chart and got it in large. But the large wears on my head like a loose helmet. It slides and spins and falls into my eyes. I’m bald-headed and I wear glasses. When outdoors in freezing temps and bone chilling gusher winds, I have to keep adjusting the hat to keep it from falling onto my glasses and spinning around on my head when I turn my head. I wear an extra skullcap under it to add some friction since I have no hair, but it’s still a nuisance. I’m hoping that a trip thru the wash and dry will shrink it a bit. But there are no care instructions and I worry the faux fur may suffer in the high heat of dryer. Line/air dry is NOT an option as I will end up with a block of ice in this weather. Also, the grey color looks much better than the black as it doesn’t show lint. The black is a lint magnet.

I would return it, except I do like the hat and it is warm. Even my cat likes to snuggle and groom the faux-fur. Plus, I want to see if the wash/dry helps the fit. If not, I’ll just donate them [I got 2], or try a medium size, which this seller for some reason doesn’t carry.

I have a large head, this hat fits well.

It is pretty warm when the side flaps are down, that is nice. The materials and workmanship seem high quality.

Cons:

1. It is not water repellent. The faux fur will really soak up water, and the entire outer portion is somewhat absorbent fabric.

2. When you close the clasp below your chin, it is not tight at all. In fact, the flaps go quite a ways below my chin.

3. When you close the clasp above your head, with the side flaps folded up, the hat does not stay attached very well. It is liable to fall off.

Living in a climate that often sees winter temperatures well below freezing and sometimes below zero I have struggled with regular knit hats that can be warm enough but always seem to creep up off the bottom of my ears. I’ve always wanted one of these trapper hats but thought they were a little goofy looking.

Well practicality finally won out and I ordered one of these. This is a really warm, well made hat and a bargain at this price. I’ve used it down to 10F and my head and ears were toasty. It made my face feel very cold by comparison. It does look a little goofy, but as warm as it is, I don’t care. Also I have a huge 7 7/8" head and one-size-fits-all NEVER fits me. This definitely runs bigger than a typical one-size-fits-all and the first time I tried it on it felt just a touch too snug, but after wearing it for an hour it loosened up and was just perfect. It will probably be too big if you have a small head.

The Arctic Vortex has about done me in and I finally caved and decided in invest in a hat.

I say "invest" but we all know what I really mean: "Get the most I can for as little money possible."

So I go to Amazon.

Here’s my take:

PRO’s
-Warm, warm, WARM. The faux fur side flaps are wide and provide really great, full coverage. It’s like your face is being hugged by a friendly bear
-Well-constructed. If it’s Made in China it definitely doesn’t feel like it. The seams are solid and the hardware is well-sewn
-Ample sizing – I’m a female with a big head. I ordered the size Large and it fits me. It’s actually a little big but I’m OK with that.

CON’s
-The only improvement I’d make is I wish there was a way to button the sides up to the top of the hat when not in use. Think I’m going to sew in small pieces of velcro. Should be a relatively easy fix.
-Looks a tiny bit goofy but I’m married. What do I care?

I have had hats like this before. This is the warmest. Maybe the wool makes the difference. The problem that I had with this one is that it felt wrong on my head, squeezing my head wrong. So, I tried it backwards and it was comfy. I don’t know if I just got a bad one or what. It works this way though. It looked weird backwards until I pulled the threads out of the front flap and folded it down to cover the back of my neck. Now it’s fine. Sure, I could have returned it for another, but I might have gotten another hat that fit wrong and I would be without a good hat for this cold Buffalo winter.

This hat is really warm. The faux fur is very soft to the touch. You can buckle up under your chin or above your head. The only thing is that it is rather weird-looking with two “ears” sticking out at each side of the head – it makes one look like a bear. That said, some may think it looks cute.
